Digital Transformation Public Sector Forum & Awards 2024

Awarded by the Ministry of Information, Communications and Digital Economy in Kenya and Greydale Africa, these awards celebrate excellence in public sector digital transformation. They aim to recognize public sector organizations that are continuously leveraging on technology to improve effectiveness, efficiency, transparency, and service delivery to Kenyan citizens. The awards are free to enter and open to all public sector organizations in both the national and county governments.

Leader of the year, digital public sector award

This top award recognizes an exemplary organization that has demonstrated excellence in implementing digital transformation initiatives to improve its internal efficiency, service delivery and has achieved excellent outcomes.

Eligible Nominees 

All public sector organizations.  

Base Criteria  

  • Demonstrate challenges faced by the organisation and how the implemented digital innovation is tackling them.
  • Demonstrate how the implemented digital innovation has improved the organisation’s own efficiency and service delivery externally.
  • Demonstrate the cross collaboration within the organization and/or externally with other organizations as a result of this innovation.
  • Have a rolled out structured initiative to promote digital skills development for officers in the organization.
  • Demonstrate innovative approaches to promote uptake and effectiveness of digital skills within the organization.
  • Demonstrate how the organization has implemented its data security and privacy policy across the organization and steps taken to ensure it is properly implemented.
  • Include metrics or other evidence that demonstrates the impact achieved internally and externally.

CEO OF THE YEAR, DIGITAL PUBLIC SECTOR AWARDS

This top award recognises outstanding CEOs, MDs, and Director Generals of State agencies.

Eligible Nominees 

CEOs, MDs, and Director Generals across the Public Service.  

Base Criteria  

  • Exceptional leadership, resilience, motivation, and strategic thinking in leading the state agency towards achieving digital innovation. 
  • Has adopted a new or improved idea that has streamlined their organizational processes, leveraged technology, established new partnerships or pursued creative solutions to advance the mission of their organization.
  • Exemplifies the efficient use of resources in the organization towards achieving digital innovation.
  • Ability to skill, develop and effectively engage officers in their organization towards achieving digital innovation.
  • Leadership in the productive use of teams that cross their agencies/ministries and organisational boundaries. 
  • Demonstrated willingness to experiment for the sake of changing the status quo for the better 
  • Showcase clear and positive outcomes in improving organizational processes and service delivery.

LEADER-DIGITAL CITIZEN ENGAGEMENT 2024

This award recognizes an organization that demonstrates excellence in citizen engagement and service delivery through extraordinary innovation, expertise and dedication in provision of exceptional service delivery using technology.

Eligible Nominees 

Public Sector organizations under the national or county governments.  

Base Criteria  

  • Have an implemented policy on customer service delivery for internal and external customers (service charters, feedback systems etc.) 
  • Demonstrate the actual digital innovations implemented to advance or support excellence in service delivery and citizen engagement.
  • Demonstrate how this digital innovation has improved efficiency and positively impacted citizens’ experiences interacting with the organization.
  • Include metrics or other evidence that demonstrates the impact achieved in customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrates customer feedback and customer engagement as a key metric for continuous improvement of customer service delivery.

LEADER- DIGITAL UPSKILLING 2024

This award recognizes organizations that exemplify excellence in promoting digital learning, skills development, strengthening capability of officers and talent management.

Eligible Nominees 

Public Sector organizations under the national or county governments.  

Base Criteria  

  • Have a rolled out structured initiative to promote digital skills development for all officers in the organization.
  • Outline the new digital skills training undertaken by the officers in the organization.
  • Demonstrate innovative approaches to promote uptake and effectiveness of digital skills within the organization.
  • Include metrics or other evidence that demonstrates the success of this implementation.

LEADER- DATA SECURITY AND PRIVACY INNOVATION

This award recognizes digital innovations that exemplify excellence in how the organization manages its data security and privacy.

Eligible Nominees 

Public Sector organizations under the national or county governments.  

Base Criteria  

  • Have a defined and documented data security and privacy policy. 
  • The organization must demonstrate how it has implemented the data security and privacy policy across the organization and steps taken to ensure it is fully and properly integrated within its processes.
  • Demonstrate the technology supporting the organization’s data privacy and policy initiative.
  • Include metrics or other evidence that demonstrates the success of this implementation.

NEW TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION AWARD

This award recognizes digital innovations that have utilized the latest technologies in the market to solve long-standing problems within the organization. The organization must demonstrate how it has implemented this new technology to positively impact its internal processes and improve service delivery.

Eligible Nominees 

Public Sector organizations under the national or county governments.  

Base Criteria  

  • Demonstrate what new technology the organization has deployed and how it was done.
  • Explain how the application of the new technology has directly helped achieve positive outcomes for organizational processes and service delivery.
  • Include metrics or reference examples that demonstrate how the new technology has supported innovation.

LEADER IN DIGITAL INNOVATION - COUNTY GOVERNMENTS

This award recognizes a county that has implemented digital innovation(s) that solve a long-standing problem within the county. The county government must demonstrate how it has created and implemented the digital system, process or procedure to positively impact its internal processes and improve service delivery.

Eligible Nominees 

All County Governments

Base Criteria  

  • Demonstrate the actual digital innovation(s) implemented to solve long-standing problems in the county and how it was deployed.
  • Demonstrate how this digital innovation has improved efficiency and positively impacted country government processes and service delivery to citizens.
  • Demonstrate innovative approaches applied by the county to promote uptake and effectiveness of digital skills by county staff.
  • Include metrics or other evidence that demonstrates the impact achieved.

SECTOR SPECIFIC AWARDS

These awards recognize digital innovations that solve long-standing problems within the respective sector. The organization must demonstrate how it has created and implemented a digital system, process or procedure to positively impact its internal processes and improve service delivery.

Eligible Nominees 

Public Sector organizations under the national or county governments that fall under the healthcare, education, agriculture, energy and financial services sector.

Base Criteria  

  • Demonstrate the actual digital innovation(s) implemented to solve long-standing problems in the organization and how it was deployed.
  • Demonstrate how this digital innovation has improved efficiency and positively impacted organizational processes and service delivery to citizens.
  • Include metrics or other evidence that demonstrates the impact achieved
